How To Do DIY Sand Blasting
Even if it is one of the projects that is typically hired out to service professionals in your local area, DIY sand blasting is still something that can be done by a weekend warrior. There are a number of different ways that this can be done, all the way from renting the professional equipment down to creating some of your own, if you happen to have the parts necessary laying around. It is also possible for you to do some wet sand blasting, provided you have the equipment available. Regardless of what job you're going to do, however, DIY sand blasting is something that can give you something to be proud of.
The easiest way for you to take care of this is to rent the equipment from a local hardware store. Sand blasting equipment is something that is generally reserved for people that are familiar with it, so you will certainly want to familiarize yourself with the equipment in order to keep safety in mind. Along with the general tools that are necessary to do the job, you also need to have a sand blasting area in order to do it effectively and cleanly. If there is one thing that is true about sand blasting, regardless of whether you're doing it yourself or if somebody else is going to be doing it, the material is going to get everywhere.
The easiest areas for you to do DIY sand blasting are either outside or in an enclosed room, such as a bathroom. There may be times whenever it is not possible for you to take the material outside of its area in order to be sand blasted, so you may need to take care of it in place. If that is true, you will want to cover absolutely everything that you possibly can which is within eyeshot of the area where the sand blasting is going to be taking place. Along with that, always make sure to wear eye, nose, ear and skin protection. Even with that protection in place, however, you will often find that the sand is irritating.
Making your own sand blasting equipment is also a possibility, provided you have a portable air compressor and a suitable airgun. All that is really necessary is for you to shoot compressed air out of the end of the gun and have a second hose which is going down in a bucket of the sand or other material. You can also do wet sand blasting with a homemade sandblaster by simply adding water in another bucket and splitting the hose.
I'll be the first to admit that it is enjoyable to do things around the home and DIY sand blasting is going to be one of those projects that you will remember for quite some time. Provided you have the equipment that is necessary in order to do the job, regardless of whether you are doing wet sand blasting or more traditional, dry sand blasting, it is possible for you to take care of it on your own. Don't overlook the possibility, however, of going with a local service that will be able to take care of the project for you if you have any doubts as to your own abilities.
